WELCHES WEEKLY UPDATE!
MAY 2, 2025
Thank you to Angela Harrell for our beautiful mural in the elementary multi purpose room.
OUR WILDCAT WISDOM TRAIT FOR MAY IS HONESTY
This month our Wildcat Wisdom trait is honesty. Honesty means telling the truth. When we tell the truth, people can trust us.
Right Brain Initiative - Artist Residency
We are gearing up for our annual Artist Residency with the Right Brain Initiative, a program designed to connect schools with artists. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our wonderful WPTCO, through fundraisers like the Rainbow Run and Bid & Bloom Auction, we are able to fully fund art programs for all of our students. Thank you for your generosity!
Starting this Friday, teaching artist Tessa Flynn Henderson will work with students on the art of Storytelling. She will use dramatic oral storytelling methods to teach students about character development. Students will use elements of theater, voice and creative writing to tell stories of honesty, heroism and more! The goal is for students to learn to use their voice to make and tell their own story.
Each grade and class will spend 5 sessions working with Tessa. Here is the schedule for each class:
May 2 & May 5-8
Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade & Ms. Nuivert's 3rd grade
May 12-16
Mr. Winans 3rd grade, 4th & 5th grades
May 19-22 & May 27
6th, 7th & 8th grades
Please be sure to ask your student about their experience with our guest teacher during their week!
Thank you for supporting arts programs for our students!
8TH GRADE PROMOTION – BABY PICTURES NEEDED!
8th Grade Families,
One of the favorite features of our 8th grade Promotion Ceremony is the Memory Slideshow. To make it special, we need pictures of the 8th grade students as babies or toddlers. Please send all digital pictures to our slide show coordinator, Julie Carrier, at julie.carrier@ortrail.k12.or.us
Please be sure to include the students' name in the subject line so we can ensure that every student is included in the slideshow.
If you do not have a digital copy but have a hard copy of the picture, send it in an envelope, with the student's name on the back of the picture and on the envelope. We will scan it, and then give the original back to you.
We will be communicating about upcoming planning meetings and promotion details in the coming weeks.
Thank you!

ALL SMILES DENTAL TEAM AT WELCHES – WEEK OF 5/12/25
All Smiles Community Oral Health will be providing free dental screenings, sealants, and fluoride at Welches school during the week of May 12, 2025. Healthy teeth are important to your child’s overall health.
A dental screening is a quick look inside your child’s mouth to check the overall health of their teeth. Dental sealants are protective coatings put on the back teeth to prevent cavities and fluoride is a vitamin that is brushed on the teeth to make teeth stronger and prevent cavities.
Click this link to sign the permission form for your child online. If you prefer, paper forms were sent home this week as well.
