WELCHES WEEKLY UPDATE!

DECEMBER 5, 2025

This month our Wildcat Wisdom Trait is Compassion

Students will be learning that compassion means we care about others and want to help people in need.

Registration Process

  1. Please read this document first. I know we never like reading the directions first :), but it will save a lot of time and frustration in the long run.
  2. Go to the In-Touch Website to register your middle schooler for athletics at Welches.

Girls Basketball information:

The season runs January 6th to the first week of  March and will be five days a week, Monday through Friday. Practices will be right after school from 4:00 - 5:45 pm (including early release Wednesdays) with one or two games a week. Depending on which team your middle school student is on, games begin at 4:30 or 5:45. A schedule will be given to the girls during the first week of practice and posted on the school’s website. There are no cuts in middle school sports, so all 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls that want to play basketball will make a team.

What to bring: court shoes, athletic shorts, a t-shirt, and a water bottle. Wear comfortable clothing that is suited for being physically active in the gym.

Wrestling Information

The season runs January 8th to the first week of March and will be five days a week, Monday through Friday. Practices will be held at Cedar Ridge Middle School from 3:00-5:00 (including early release Wednesdays), with usually one meet a week. All middle schools in the Oregon Trail School District combine to form one team, with practices and home meets held at Cedar Ridge. Student-athletes from Boring, OTA, and Welches will be bussed to Cedar Ridge. There is no bus home, so wrestlers must be picked up at Cedar Ridge when practices or meets are over. Meets will be held once a week, with schedules handed out at the parent meeting.

Wrestling is open to all middle school students. boys and girls, grades 6,7,8.

What to bring: athletic shoes, athletic shorts, a t-shirt, and a water bottle. Wear comfortable clothing that is suited for being physically active. Wrestling shoes are recommended, but not required.

If you have questions, please call the Welches School office at 503-622-3165.

Great food items are boxed dinners, cereals, canned vegetables, fruits, rice, dried beans, chili, tuna, peanut butter and soups. (No ramen noodles please)

MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND CONCERT

Our Welches Middle School Winter Band concert will be on Thursday, December 11 at 7:00 pm in the elementary multipurpose room. All beginning band and advanced band students must report to the music room no later than 6:45 on the evening of the concert. Concerts are a chance to share all that students have learned so far this year, and we are excited to play for you. Concert attendance is expected for all band students, and participation counts as a summative grade for the first semester. Please mark this important date on your calendar!

In addition, concerts are a special occasion and we want to look nice and dress up a bit. Formal attire is not expected, and I do not want families to feel that they need to buy new and fancy clothes for concerts. Think of clothes that are a little bit nicer than every day school clothes, and that you might wear to a family event. The main guidelines I would like all students to follow are no shorts, pajama pants, sweatpants, athletic wear, and shirts with large writing or logos on them, and clothes need to follow school dress code.

Please invite family, friends, and community members to support our students!

NOTICE OF STATEWIDE ASSESSMENTS

Oregon’s statewide assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics will take place in April and May at Welches School.

The assessments provide our students in grades 3-8, and their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth. They also help our school and district evaluate our system of teaching and learning.

Oregon permits parents/guardians to annually opt out of statewide summative tests in ELA and/or Math by submitting a form, and they may also request exemptions from other assessments (OSAS Online Science, ELPA Screener, ELPA Summative, ORExt Science Assessment). These forms are available on our website at  https://oregontrailschools.com/6840_2
